Necrotic Enteritis
A Belfast scientist has made a breakthrough in disease prevention described as a first in the world. This has emerged from a programme of work sponsored by industry and government in partnership devoted to enhancing food quality and safety. This will allow Northern Ireland to build on its reputation as a source of clean wholesome food.
The initial findings of a project aimed at improving the intestinal health of poultry and studying the beneficial effects of certain specialised dietary ingredients was presented recently at a poultry seminar to a select group of industry and government personnel in Belfast.
This is a joint project between the Veterinary Sciences Division of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Queen’s University Belfast and Devenish Nutrition, which has received generous funding and commercial support from Invest NI. Considerable help was also received from Moy Park and O’Kane Poultry in the design and implementation of this project.
