Engineering Project Manager

Devenish is a fast growing, innovative, international agri-food technology business, supplying innovative environmental, animal and human health solutions to the farm, feed and food industry internationally. Headquartered in Belfast, Devenish has five manufacturing sites in the UK, including A-One and Hi Peak Feeds, as well as United States and Mexico.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful Engineering Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the business capital investment plan for the Devenish Group. In addition to the core responsibilities, this role will also support the Engineering team with facilities management, and provide technical support to the maintenance teams.

Key duties include:

Project Management:

  • Ensure delivery of individual projects to plan including timing, budgets and realisation of project deliverables
  • Producing project plans which highlight key milestones from start to finish
  • Day-to-day management of each project ensuring stakeholders are updated with progress to plan
  • Escalate any variations to plan to relevant stakeholders and secure reapproval and or corrective actions
  • Management of contractors onsite making sure all guidelines and work procedures are followed
  • Facilitate the implementation of risk assessments/work instructions for new equipment
  • Analysis of spare parts in planned maintenance requirements for new equipment being installed
  • Coordination of training for operators and maintenance staff for new equipment
  • Analysis of five-year rolling site renovation needs in conjunction with the maintenance teams
  • Identification of potential improvement projects to help meet targets in relation to safety improvement, productivity, efficiency, quality improvements

Facilities Management:

  • Supporting the effective facilities management within the Devenish Group
  • Ensuring sites are maintained, and improvement projects identified and justified where required

Technical Support:

  • Provide technical support to maintenance engineers for plant reliability issues
  • Support effective Root Cause Analysis sessions for high impact plant failures
  • Actively participate in site continuous improvement programmes
  • Provide cover for the Maintenance Manager and Engineering Manager roles during holiday periods or periods of travel

Essential Criteria:

  • Engineering degree or time served as a dual-skilled apprentice
  • 3 years' experience in a similar project role
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively and work under pressure
  • Understanding of managing a multi-disciplinary project team and the challenges involved
  • Highly motivated
  • Strong analytical problem-solving abilities with an ability to build constructive working relationships
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Results driven with sound business judgement
  • Strong IT skills including standard Microsoft packages
  • Can communicate effectively at all levels of a business
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Good attendance, timekeeping and disciplinary record
  • Full driving licence and access to a car
  • Prepared to travel to various sites as required

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of fast paced manufacturing industry
  • Experience of providing training for operator and maintenance staff for new equipment
  • Knowledge of project planning software package eg Microsoft Project
  • Familiar with AUTOCAD/Solid Works packages
  • Strong negotiation skills with experience of tendering processes
