EHS Manager

Devenish is a fast growing, innovative, international agri-food technology business, supplying innovative environmental, animal and human health solutions to the farm, feed and food industry internationally. Headquartered in Belfast, Devenish has five manufacturing sites in the UK, including A-One and Hi Peak Feeds, as well as United States and Mexico.

The Role

Reporting to the Operational Excellence Manager, the successful candidate will lead the health and safety initiatives across multiple to ensure EHS compliance across our English sites; A-One, Hi-Peak, Milby and Widnes.

Key duties include:

  1. Promote a positive proactive culture towards health and safety
  2. Keeping the site leads informed of statutory requirements and ensuring compliance from EHS regulations
  3. Providing an advisory service on EHS matters
  4. Ensuring that all incidents are investigated thoroughly to highlight root cause and corrective actions
  5. Arranging and/or undertaking regular inspections, audits, surveys and tests to assess the standards achieved using, where appropriate, external assistance
  6. Liaising with managers and technical personnel to ensure that health and safety aspects of all new plant, equipment and processes are fully assessed
  7. Ensuring risk assessments are undertaken and safe systems of work developed and implemented, to eliminate or reduce risks to the health and safety of employees or other persons
  8. Reporting notifiable incidents to the appropriate authority
  9. Ensuring compliance with all COSHH and MSDS on the relevant sites
  10. Ensuring compliance with fire and emergency evacuation procedures
  11. Providing periodic EHS, KPI and performance reporting
  12. Conduct Environmental monitoring and follow-up on remedial actions
  13. Assistance in the claim management process, with the legal and HR team
  14. Providing advice in investigations into the cause of significant accidents and dangerous occurrences and carrying out recommendations for remedial actions
  15. Arranging and/or undertaking regular and statutory inspections, audits, surveys and tests to assess the standards achieved using, where appropriate, external assistance
  16. Assisting with the undertaking of risk assessments and development of safe working practices to eliminate or reduce risks to the health and safety of employees or other persons

Essential Criteria:

  • NEBOSH certification or equivalent
  • A minimum of five years (or equivalent) in the same or a similar role
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Understands the wider environment to make appropriate resource decisions
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Results orientated
  • Highly motivated
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively and work under pressure
  • Strong analytical problem-solving abilities with an ability to build constructive working relationships
  • Good negotiator
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Results driven with sound business judgement

  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Good attendance, timekeeping and disciplinary record
  • Full driving licence and access to a car
  • Prepared to travel to various sites

Desirable Criteria:

  • Degree in an Engineering or Business discipline
  • First Aid trained
  • Experience in working towards ISO standards
