Pig Technical Support

The Role

We have a requirement for a person to fulfil the role of Pig Technical Support based GB on a permanent basis. This role involves providing technical support and managing performance trials in support of key accounts in GB. The ideal candidate will possess sound technical and nutritional understanding, a very high level of attention to detail, an ability to work independently in a flexible manner and an ability to collect, collate and report data in a timely manner. This role offers a pathway to an applied nutrition role in GB. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Pigs.

Key responsibilities:
  • Running Pig trials on our grower - finisher pig performance house
  • Collection and analysis of all performance and feed intake data during trial
  • Ensuring the performance house is accurately managed during the trial
  • Provide technical and nutritional advice
  • Conducting other technical duties such as literature reviews, best practice benchmarking etc
Essential criteria:
  • Bachelor degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Science or Technology, or related degree
  • A keen interest of the pig sector and desire to learn
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • An ability to work on own initiative but also to work collaboratively with others; a willingness to go the extra mile in pursuit of successful outcomes
  • Computer literate with a strong emphasis on attention to detail and proficient in all Microsoft Office packages, especially Excel
  • Numerical accuracy skills and good attention to detail
  • Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to prioritise effectively and work under tight deadlines
  • A strong work ethic and proactive, problem solving attitude
  • Ability to work in a farming environment and prepared to occasionally lift to 25kg (legal)
  • Ability to work flexibly from a time and location point of view (within GB) and be adaptable to trial needs
  • Full driving licence and access to transport
Desirable criteria:
  • Degree level education in an agricultural or animal related degree
  • Practical farming experience and good knowledge of pig farming
  • While not essential, familiarity with pig nutrient and feed formulation would be advantageous

  • Primarily based at the Pig Performance House in GB, flexibility and travel within GB will be required. Occasional travel outside GB may be required.
