Site Maintenance Engineer

Based in Widnes, we are a leading provider of environmental, animal and human health solutions and a key influencer in driving health and sustainability throughout the food chain. Devenish has four manufacturing sites in the UK and four in the United States, from where they supply innovative nutritional solutions and technical expertise to producers through the farm, feed and food industry in the UK, Ireland, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Australasia, Latin America, and the USA.

The Role

Reporting to the Site Lead Engineer, with a functional link to the Project & C&I Manager, the Site Maintenance Engineer will ensure the condition and performance of the plant and equipment meet the agreed Safety, Quality, Production, Productivity and Cost requirements of the business.

Responsibilities include:

  • Carry out all planned, preventative and corrective maintenance tasks in accordance with maintenance systems
  • Respond to site machine breakdowns, troubleshooting the issues and returning the equipment to production as efficiently as possible
  • Management of spares, procurement of maintenance tools, parts & consumables
  • Provide comprehensive breakdown information and actions taken to support the planned maintenance system
  • Investigate, root cause analyse and resolve problems relating to machines
  • Ensure machines are fit for purpose after any engineering intervention, commissioning of new equipment / processes
  • Analyse machine planned maintenance requirements, documenting clear work instructions for PMs and determining most efficient frequency
  • Assess level of machine documentation available, identify gaps and work with suppliers to put adequate documentation in place
  • Analysis of machine performance and defining areas for Continuous Improvement opportunities and implementing solutions to facilitate those improvements
  • Take Health, Safety and Environmental ownership of yourself, others & activities within your areas of responsibility and raising all HSE concerns you become aware of, outside your areas of responsibility, with relevant managers

Essential Criteria:

  • Time served qualification, dual skilled electrical and mechanical experience required
  • Experience of deploying plant continuous improvement projects to improve safety, quality, productivity, efficiency.
  • Thorough knowledge of mills/factories, modern processes, equipment and automation to ensure challenge of conventional manufacturing processes
  • Ability to work in a demanding and challenging environment
  • Flexible and adaptable approach in terms of role and working hours. Out of hours support to the site will form part of the role.
