Safety first as Devenish invests in electronic warehouse vehicle

Belfast-headquartered agri-technology company Devenish Nutrition has invested in state-of-the-art equipment for its animal nutrition production site in Belfast, aimed at improving employee safety and operational efficiencies.

Devenish is the first company in Northern Ireland to introduce the two tonne Combilift pedestrian stacker, an electronic forklift vehicle designed by Monaghan business Combilift, which can lift and handle loads within narrow spaces.

The vehicle's technology means that the operator can remain in the safest possible position when placing and picking in narrow aisles, namely at the side of the unit, rather than between the truck and the racking. This improves visibility and greatly reduces the risk of incidents in tight confines.

Employee safety is our top priority at Devenish, and this is the latest in a number of investments aimed at improving safety across our sites where our animal nutrition products are manufactured and packed for delivery in large quantities, explains Denver Henderson, Operational Excellence Manager, Devenish.

We have a highly skilled team of operators and we seek to create the safest environment for them to work within. We were introduced to Combilift, an innovative Irish company, via our partners at Dawson Materials Handling Equipment.

The stacker we have introduced to our warehouse can turn in a much smaller area than a standard forklift and can handle long, awkward sized loads as well as our standard pallets. These functions significantly increase safety within a fast-paced production facility, where safety management is critical.

This equipment is both environmentally friendly and pivotal in helping us reduce the risk of accidental injury on site. Introducing the Comblift stacker is one step in a major investment programme that Devenish is rolling out to enhance operational efficiency and safety at production level over the coming months, Denver said.

David Vuagniaux, Product Manager with Combilift added: It is fantastic to see a major international company like Devenish investing in our equipment. Our products are designed with safety and effectiveness in mind and it is testament to Devenish that they recognise the benefit of investing in equipment that best supports the needs and wellbeing of its staff as well as its business operations.
