Pig Research Technician

The Role

Reporting to the Innovation and Development Manager, the successful candidate will manage the day to day running of the research station in terms of animal husbandry; experimental design; data collection, management and analysis. They will be required to ensure that the management and methodologies employed are undertaken in accordance with best practice to deliver a high level of animal welfare as well as robust and statistically reliable research outcomes. The successful candidate will be required to manage and analyse data that is generated from these projects in a timely manner.

Main duties include:

• Carry out duties relating to running of nutrition trials
• Contribute to the management of samples
• Work effectively with the research team to ensure timely and successful completion of trials
• Contribute to the teamwork and team-spirit in the research group
• Actively maintain the research repository management system & processes

Essential Criteria:

• A degree/qualification in agricultural science, food science or a related discipline
• Previous pig husbandry experience
• Some experience in animal trials
• Research experience in animal nutrition
• Data handing and completion and IT skills in MS packages
• Experience of working in a methodical manner and independently
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines
• Ability to work both autonomously and in a constructive environment
• Right to work in the UK
• Flexible and adaptable

Desirable Criteria:

• Good verbal and written communication
• Statistical analysis, method validation and experimental design
• Good knowledge of agriculture
• Good Record keeping
